Biographical Information:
Michael Salkind graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1993, and immediately dedicated his career to defending those accused of crimes and serious traffic offenses. He began with the Colorado Public Defender in Jefferson County, and, in 1994, was transferred to the El Paso County office and assigned a Juvenile Defense caseload. Later, in District Court (felony court), Michael defended every type of charge, including First Degree Murder. Michael left the Public Defender in 1996 to join a Criminal Defense firm, and then became a sole practitioner in 1999.
Michael is or has been a member of the boards of Justice Watch and the ACLU (local and state), and has donated his time to such organizations as the Teen Court Mentoring Program, the Detention Operations Review Panel, Moot Court and Mock Trial competitions (high school and law school).
As an experienced attorney in Colorado Springs with ample knowledge in many areas, Michael gives monthly talks regarding gun laws and the laws of self-defense (and, if asked, the "Make My Day" law) as part of the Paradise Gun Sales gun safety course (a prerequisite for obtaining one's Concealed Carry Permit)
Michael has presented talks to the Pikes Peak Firearms Coalition, and to a Continuing Legal Education seminar dedicated to defending Veterans of the United States Armed Forces (specifically regarding the Domestic Violence laws), as a well as civics classes at local schools and at Colorado College. He has been interviewed as a legal expert on KRDO Radio and by the Colorado Springs Independent and the Colorado Springs Gazette.
Michael has been widely commended as a DUI attorney in Colorado Springs in papers such as the Colorado Springs Independent and the Colorado Springs Gazette, and has written on such topics as the problems with the Domestic Violence laws, gun rights, and road rage.
